Want to see another side of Springfield’s Lucas Grabeel as an actor? Watch him perform in a film short he also co-wrote and co-produced.

“The Real Son” is currently being featured on the Internet Movie Database, at www.imdb.com/title/tt1189388/videogallery.

The dark comedy directed and co-written by Kelly L. King, also stars Mark L. Taylor and K. Danor Gerald — two actors Grabeel knows from his leading role as Ryan Evans in “High School Musical 2.” The actors, director and film crew — more “HSM 2” folks — shot the short during a day off from making the second movie in Disney’s hit HSM series.

The short, in which Grabeel plays a disgruntled teen whose father can’t seem to accept him for being different, includes some material inappropriate for children.

The short played in Springfield as part of the Show-Me International Film Festival in February, and it won a Gold Medal for Excellence at the Park City Film Music Festival in Park City, Utah.
